Mister D Says

Missives from just inside the rail

Is there no other side?

Matt Deatherage, an on-target critic of the mass media, [wrote](http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/episode/2006_08_25_ep79.html):

>Just like a bully hits you because he knows you’re too scared to hit him back, Hitchens and his dishonest troupe of discredited war backers keep lying because they know their opposition is too scared to call them on it. When that changes – and I don’t mean stuff like “Well, he’s incorrect” or “that’s not the truth,” but “you’re lying and you know you’re lying” – the entire conservative combat commentariat will collapse.

That’s an excerpt from a longish post about how Matt thinks many Conservatives lie about the war in Iraq and other things.

Now, I respect Matt a lot and, although I disagree with most of his politics, I read his stuff all the time. He is thoughtful, thorough and articluate. But, I have to break my don’t-post-about-politics rule to ask: Matt, are you suggesting that it is only Conservatives who manipulate the truth in this matter?

I don’t want to argue about it, but surely you don’t mean that all Conservatives lie. Some do. But many don’t. And, similarly, some Liberal pundits lie – not all of them! – with startling regularity. Of course, I could go through the trouble of listing examples, but the point really is that I don’t have to, do I?

I’d have even more respect for your post if it was unbiased (or, should I say, “fair and balanced”?).

Also, what’s up with not allowing comments? Or did I miss something?

Wanted: a WP Plugin to control line height

*This is an older post… I’ve bumped it to the top to call more attention to it.*

I’ve got problems.

My first problem is that I like to post about poker and I like this [neat plugin](http://www.warroompoker.com/?page_id=14/) that creates little playing cards for me to use in my posts. So, instead of saying something like:

>Last night, I played a great tournament, until I overplayed my Kc4c and managed to cripple myself by betting into a better hand.

I can post this instead:

>Last night, I played a great tournament, until I overplayed my :Kc:4c and managed to cripple myself by betting into a better hand.

See – isn’t that cool?
[Ignore this text for now; you will understand why it's here when you get to the end of this paragraph. I promise.] I also like to use smilies from time to time, like this :) and this :D . But, those sort of inline graphics screw up my posts because the graphics themselves are taller than the test around them. So, WordPress ends up adding blank space above the line in which they appear, which makes the paragraph look screwy. (I added the first two sentences to this paragraph to demonstrate this.)

So, I’d like a WordPress plugin that auto-magically resets the line spacing (or [leading](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leading), if you prefer the proper term) based on the inclusion of inline graphics in a paragraph, post or page.

That brings me to my other problem: I can’t code. I have no idea how someone writes a WordPress plugin and, considering my busy schedule of teaching, raising kids and playing poker, I don’t have time to learn.

But you, dear reader, might have just the requisite skills to write such a thing. And, if you do, you will get paid for your efforts! (I just don’t know how much yet.)
